Recent news -

"Yahoo!'s (is that even correct punctuation?) woes continue. The search provider has been dropped by leading mobile browser company Opera and Google will be
the default search engine for downloadable copies of Opera Mobile for all platforms as of March 1st. Google will also automatically appear as the front page
search engine for all Opera Mini users as well. Opera's press release follows. "

10 things that would be really cool on N-Gage

Tzer2 has been busy, over on All About N-Gage, listing 10 things that would be really cool on the new next-gen games platform. Do you think any of these
semi-predictions will happen? Let Tzer2 know in the comments!

Nokia Maps 2.0 preview - Four Steps forward and One Step back

Steve Litchfield has been putting in the miles and paces to test Nokia's new beta of Maps 2.0. This premieres the pedestrian navigation mode, significant
upgrades to the driving mode, satellite imagery, plus many rewritten UI elements. What exactly is new, what's improved and what's been removed? It's all here
in this in-depth, illustrated preview.

Motorola finally release a Z8 firmware update

At last owners of Motorola's Z8 smartphone have something to be pleased about - in a long overdue move, Motorola have finally released a public firmware update
for this phone. Details of the exact firmware version released are a little sketchy at the moment, as Motorola have quietly been shipping updated firmwares on
new handsets for a while now, but head over to the Moto Smartphones website for the latest on this unfolding story.

Nokia and Cambridge University introduce Morph | The N95 at the BBC

Nokia in conjunction with Cambridge University today released details of Morph - a concept nanotechnology device. Concepts are, by their nature, somewhat
speculative, but nonetheless Morph does offer an intruiging glimpse of possible future technologies. This includes the use of flexible materials allowing for
bendable devices, self cleaning materials and greater use of integrated sensors.

Darren Waters, of the BBC no less, has been using the Nokia N95 exclusively for blogging and videoblogging, as we've mentioned before. In this post, he
summarises his experiences, good and bad. Suffice it to say that the N95's staying in his kit bag, but that he wishes there was an external microphone option.

The future of mobile development?

Michael Mace has written an interesting post on his blog Mobile Opportunity about the fall of (native) Mobile Applications. The basic thesis of the post is
that native mobile development is declining because of platform fragmentation, issues around certification, and marketing problems. Michael goes on to suggest
that mobile development itself is not dead, but that it will increasingly move to the web as a platform. Read on for more.

Philips Demo AAA Battery Boost for Handsets

Over on Guy Goma Kewney site, James Sherwood has pictures of a lovely mobile phone battery solution from MWC - the Philips 9@9j mobile phone takes not only a
custom Lithium Ion battery, but also has a slot to take a regular AAA battery to top up the main battery for another three hours of talk time. If I was
travelling, and I had the option to strap in a standard cell to my Symbian phone, I would be right there.

Nokia N93 four times faster at 3D graphics than N81

3D graphics benchmarks aren't the 'be all and end all' when it comes to games playing performance, but they're a good clue as to how capable a device is. So it
was interesting to find out about a regularly updated and bookmarkable table of OpenGL ES benchmarked smartphones. It's topped by the 'if you believe Nokia'
obsolete N93 and the N-Gage 1st access smartphone, the N81, comes in a lowly 22nd. Read on for comment.

Introducing Nokia Text Messenger

You've got to love all the cool widgets and utilities coming out of Nokia Beta Labs. They just announced the availability of Nokia Text Messenger, a Windows
Vista desktop gadget to show your received text messages and let you send new ones.

Might an empty Vase be better than a full N96?

The 'Vase' is just a concept device, to be sure, but it got me thinking. Is this the way to handle a smartphone interface where there's enough functionality to
overwhelm beginners? Maybe yes, maybe no, but it's a question that's good to ask.

N-Gage - the BBC interview

There's a really nice video interview just up on the BBC site with Nokia's N-Gage head talking about the next gen games platform and demonstrating several of
the games. And the video interview, just like my own Smartphones Show, was shot ON an Nseries smartphone, apparently. Cool points all round!

Nokia N78 - the TV skit...& Nokia launch games developer challenge

I couldn't resist passing on Nokia's Nseries team's latest marketing skit, showing off the inner workings (ahem) of the Nokia N78. Funny stuff, see below!

Nokia is calling on mobile developers with new ideas to take part in its Mobile Games Innovation Challenge, and at least one winning game will be published by
Nokia on its new N-Gage platform (which is based on S60 3rd Edition). Entries will be accepted from the 3rd of April 2008, so if you're interested it might be
worth starting work now. Established developers and publishers can already apply to publish commercially on the platform, or find out more on the N-Gage
developer site.

S60 device table updated, also Forum Nokia & You Have Won The "Apple Iphone Nokia 8GB"... Honestly! lol

Opening my email, I see I've won an amazing prize - the "brand new Apple Iphone Nokia 8GB"! It's allegedly part of the "Nokia 'N' Series New Year Program", and
also comes with a cash prize of five hundred thousand pounds.... Oh it's spam? Darn. But isn't it interesting that viagra is no longer the big draw in email
fraud, but phrases like "to promote the use of mobile phones with the world as a global village" are? More below...

After the brace of S60 devices announced at MWC, I've done an update to my comprehensive S60 comparison table. Still a few 'Unknown's, so comment if you can
help fill any in. Also of note is that Forum Nokia now has the official specs of the new Nokia devices online.

The N-Gage Unification Theory - Looking to the Future Of Gaming & Google Releases Native Search client for S60

With the MWC and now GDC events under our belt, Ewan Spence draws from all the clues that Nokia has been dropping and comes up with a connected, converged
epiphany into the future of gaming. The unification of smartphone functions, social networking and gaming is just around the corner, perhaps. Personally, I
can't see any real showstoppers.

Google has released a native client for Google search for S60 phones. The application, available via the Google mobile site, places a shortcut to a Google
search box on the Idle screen (unfortunately only for devices with either a 'Ctrl' or 'pencil/edit' key), but is also accessible via the usual application
launcher on all devices. Typing in a query to the search box and pressing search opens up Web and takes you to the results page for that Google query in one
go. It uses the new Google Mobile search service we mentioned a few weeks ago. Read on for more.

NEC N095iµ Cell Phone & NEC N905i High-End Cell Phone

Along with the NEC N705iμ, another of the first in the line of LiMo compliant mobile phones is NEC N905i for the Japanese market under the network, NTT DoCoMo. The NEC N905i high-end keitai (Japanese cell phone) boasts 5.2 megapixel camera with face-detection auto-focus function. High-speed mobile web browsing is also made available with its HSDPA support and watching TV is possible with the 1-Seg TV tuner. It displays a simple menu which could be expanded for further usage. A circular control button is featured and for optimal 1-Seg TV viewing, the screen could be folded horizontally. The NEC N905i will be available in red, white, pink, and black. Read more about the NEC N905i features (Japanese)

Still another in the line of NEC's new and first ever LiMo-compliant mobile phones along with NEC N905i and NEC N705iμ is NEC N095iµ, for the DoCoMo network. It boasts a super-thing (12.9 mm depth and 106 grams in weight) sophisticated design. The NEC N095iµ keitai has a flat-sheet keypad, 2-megapixel camera, HSDPA support, WORLD WING global roaming capability, and an illuminated lights play when shut on its clamshell form, whenever there are incoming calls and messages. The model will be available in four colors: opal white, graphite black, venus gold, and bourgogne red. Check out NEC N095iµ keitai's product page. (Japanese)

Pic of Unidentified Sony Ericsson Clamshell Leaked

Leaks are always a great thing and we're glad this one got to us. Apparently, a new and unidentified Sony Ericsson clamshell has been spotted. If we based our
observations on the pic, it seems the new phone has mobile web browsing capability, Bluetooth connectivity, and GPS functionality. It's being touted as a
"stylish" phone and although we can't see much from the blurry pic, it looks okay to me. We can't wait 'til more info about this Sony Ericsson handset comes
out. We'll make sure to report them.

Sony Walkman NWZ-A820 Series: Video MP3 with Bluetooth Stereo

iPod, what iPod? Looking at the new Sony Walkman NWZ-A820 Series, I'd bet there'll be many who'd jump over the fence if the A810 didn't convince them. This new line of video mp3 players with Bluetooth stereo seems like a hit in the making. The large, clear 2.4" QVGA screen ensures you'll enjoy the high quality video playback, and, as the name implies, it has Bluetooth connectivity for wireless music. There are three storage capacities available: The 16GB NWZ-A829 which can store 62 hours of video or 3,800 songs. The 8GB NWZ-A828 which can store 30 hours 40 mins of video or 1,850 songs. The 4GB NWZ-A826 which can store 15 hours or 925 songs. Another winner is the extended battery life which entails 10 hours of video and 36 hours of music playback. Even when the Bluetooth is enabled, the battery is still capable of supporting the player for 7 hours video and 15 hours music playback. Speaking of video playback, the Sony Walkman NWZ-A820 can support 30 fps of it. The device can support a variety of media formats such as copyright-free AAC, Linear PCM, MP3, WMA for audio; AVC and MPEG-4 for video; and JPEG for picture files. Files can easily be transferred from your PC to the player via drag and drop. The device also boasts four 'Clear Audio' Technologies for maximum listening experience. The three versions of the new Sony Walkman NWZ-A820 Series will be available starting April 2008 in Europe. Pre-orders are now possible through http://www.sonystyle-europe.com/ More pics after the jump.

Released as a Valentine's present is the latest build of Mobitubia, one of a handful of third party YouTube viewing applications. With the ability to download
the FLV videos and watch them while offline, it's a popular choice for a number of you, and it shows the powerful nature of having a fully open platform that
third parties can write applications.

Pocket Express now native S60
Handmark were promising a native S60 version of their information portal app at last year's Smartphone Show. It seems it just went live, at least for UK users.
It's a 2.4MB install though, and you need to surrender phone number and postcode info before it'll do anything. As with the original Java version, you get
news, sport, dictionary, weather and finance stats for free, but you need to pay for mapping and travel help (via IntoMobile)

with the numbers Nokia have reported for sage of their Music Store - 20% of eligible users have registered with the store. Nokia also report that 25% of that
number (ie 5% of the total) use the on-device client; a significant improvement on the 1.1% that M:Metrics report downloading direct to the device.

Thoughts From The BBC on a Mobile MWC

While the usual web suspects had their tricks ready for covering last week's MWC, the BBC's Technology team of Darren Walters (back at base) and Rory
Cellan-Jones (on site reporter) were happily posting away on their BBC blog using an N95 and the latest mobile software tools (such as Shozu) Darren and Rory's
thoughts are here and here respectively. And while you read that, I think I need to get a big "Isn't that demarcation?" sticker for the Camera Crew.

Nokia just releases

Nokia Media Network Promises High Click Through for Certain Advertisers
And here's the mobile advertising announcement, Nokia Media Network, a 'premiere mobile advertising network' (their phrase), was announced at MWC. This appears
to be the re-branding of the Enpocket advertising company the Finnish company purchased on October 2007, allowing companies to place advertising on Operator
and Mobile Publisher pages.

Share on Ovi
Nokia's press release at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona annoucned Ovi's next step. It seems that the evolutioon of Ovi is geared towards the big press
dates on the calendar - which makes sense, as the Ovi concept needs to bear repetition to the world, as witnessed by the number of questions around it at
today's press conference. Joining Nokia Maps 2.0, is the Share on Ovi online service.

The Newest Navigator - the 6210
Also just announced at MWC was the 6210 Navigator, bringing the older 6110 Navigator up to date with 3.2 megapixel camera and latest styling. Maps 2.0 will be
built-in and there's an N95-style accelerometer to help out, in addition to the full S60 application package/platform. Photos and more details below the break.

Wow,Opera Mini Reaches 100,000 Downloads A Day & Nokia Maps 2.0 beta formally available

No matter how you break it down, having your application downloaded 100,000 times every day is a crazy number, and one worth shouting about. So that's what
Opera have done. Opera Mini is the software getting the accolade (on top of last week's upgrade announcement), and the free browser with a proxy rendering
client deserves it.

Nokia Maps 2.0 beta formally available
[updated post] Yep, v2.0 is now out, at http://www.nokia.com/betalabs/maps/ - thanks, guys, we got to a working URL in the end(!) It's strictly a beta release
but should work well on any FP1 phone (e.g. N95, N82, E90, E51, etc.) Some of the new features (e.g. traffic) may not work yet, either.

Symbian OS now powers 7% of all phones sold & now Nokia to offer Google search results

Symbian chose to wait until MWC before releasing their own Q4 results for 2007 and the full press release is quoted below. There's also a video webcast to
stream if you want to see Symbian's CEO and CFO go through the numbers in person. Standout highlights include the fact that Symbian OS now powers around 7% of
all phones being sold worldwide (up from 5%), with just over 22 million Symbian OS-powered smartphones shipped in Q4/2007.

Nokia to offer Google search results

Ah yes, good to see Nokia and Google talking to each other at last. It seems that they've inked a deal to include Google search results in Nokia's on-device
Mobile Search utility. The rollout will start with the new devices announced yesterday and will then come in firmware updates and downloads to existing devices
in various markets in due course. The press release is below, if you want the full details.

S60 Touch UI coming along nicely?

Below the break, there's an interesting video demo of some of the features in the upcoming S60 Touch UI, showing standby screen shortcuts, list scrolling and
explaining touch interaction in Web. Good to see so much emphasis is being placed on consistency with existing the S60 3rd Edition platform, too...

What If The Mainstream Doesn't Want To Share?
Is 'sharing' a good marketing angle for the mainstream? In typically controversial fashion, and with a good sense of Web 2.0 in the real world, Ewan isn't so
sure. What fraction of Nseries phone buyers, for example, are really going to get to grips with sharing online and geo-tagging?

N78 and N96 hands-on - best so far

While Rafe's still emboiled in the hustle and bustle of MWC, many others have managed to get out their thoughts on Nokia's two top end Nseries smartphones. The
best of these is Vaibhav Sharma's, well photographed and plenty of insights for both the N78 and the N96.

emTube taken down?
Anyone know whether we should read anything into the fact that emTube's web site has been taken down? Legal action from YouTube about unauthorised access to
their streams? emTube (direct YouTube video access) continues to work, but it would be great if someone could fill us in with hard news on this, arguably the
best S60 app yet created.

Keep Your Batteries Above The Red Line

After his recent thesis of battery threshold, Steve's now asking why the battery life of a smartphone is getting worse. The recent announcements at 3GSM have
only confirmed this to him, and now he's ready to present his evidence. Is your smartphone above or below the thin red line of battery capacity?

Screenies of the TouchFLO GUI Manila

The Swiss web site, pocketpc.ch, has posted screen captures of the alleged TouchFLO 2.0 called Manila. The GUI was leaked by web site, htcinsider.blogspot.com.
This, apparently, might just be the GUI HTC would use for future products and would be releasing later this year. You can go to the htcinsider blog to download
the file, but a word of caution -- proceed at your own risk. This version of "Manila" was intended for further development. Who knows what'll happen to your
device if you tinker with it. Head on over to the pocketpc.ch web site for more screen caps and a video.

Samsung SCH-W350/SPH-W3500 Cell Phones

Samsung is definitely not vying for the slimmest or the smallest title with the new SCH-W350/W3500 Korea-only phones but offer much more than style with these
two new offerings. With a DMB digital tuner, HSDPA of up 7.2Mpbs, a 3-megapixel digital camera, Bluetooth 2.0, microSD, and world roaming with both WCDMA/GSM
support, Samsung seems to have realized that style isn't everything. This scratch-proof clamshell also has a screen that swivels to a horizontal position
making digital TV a real delightful experience. The Samsung SCH-W350/SPH-W3500 come in colors of pearl black and cherry red and will be $640 and $740
respectively, but too bad we may never see this stateside as this is a Korea only affair.

A 3G Linux Phone Under $100 To Be Showcased in Mobile World Congress

such, numerous manufacturers decide to design Linux-based mobile phones. Aside from Mast, NXP Semiconductors and Purple Labs have come with what they claim to
be the first 3G Linux phone to cost under US$100. The affordable phone would feature video streaming, music playback, high speed internet, and video telephony.
The phone, would be named "Purple Magic," would be showcased in the Mobile World Congress next month, February, in Barcelona.

Celunite in its developmental stages, The company aims to market their product as a complete Linux package including developments tools, middleware, kernel,

integration problem. People come with piece parts." Of course, Azingo isn't exactly the first to offer a complete Linux mobile platform package, but it sure is
interesting to see which brand would carry it first.

IMPORTANT: IF THE NGAGE GAMES SYSTEM FOLDER CONTAINS THIS FILE: SYSTEM/LIBS/ECOM.DLL DELETE IT BEFORE TRANSFERINF THE SYSTEM FOLDER OF THE GAME TO DV RS MMC VIA CARD READER.IF U DONT N70 CANT START OR IF U ENTER THE MMC WHEN MOBILE IS OPEN THEN IT STUCKS YOUR MOBILE
(No games here,you should already have game with yourself)

Α ΝΟΤΕ for everyone here who might have problems with his phone when installing NGAGE games....

The following N-Gage Libs have been found to be the cause of system instability on Series60 phones:

System/Libs:
* ECom.dll
* EComServer.exe
* Http.dll
* Httptcphnd.dll
* INetProtUtil.dll
* securesocket.dll
* SSL70.DLL
* ssladaptor.dll
* Stringpool.dll

Problems include:
* Problems recording video
* application crashes on exiting some games/apps (including non N-Gage games!)
* Random phone reboots in some games/apps (including non N-Gage games!)

Deleting these files from your System/Libs folder and then performing a reboot of your handset should improve system stability and still allow you to play N-Gage games. If an N-Gage game requires one or more of these files simply copy the required file(s) to the GAMES own folder (not the Libs folder!).

ESPECIALLY for the ECom.dll file, please (even if you dont like following the above), DELETE IT from the libs folder. This one is the reason that N70 may stuck without turning on etc. THERE IS NO REASON FOR FORMAT just delete this file (if not all the above) from the system\libs folder.....

about N95 clone china made !! wow !! Have a look.

just compare the counterfeiting n95 above and the original nokia n95....

seems like the multimedia key on clone n95 phone is okay but hmmm...just look to the original nokia n95...it has more interface...such as the menu key and navigator key(green mark)...

the NOKIA N95 label is different...the clone phone label have a lil bit bigger than the original nokia product n95 series

just correct me if i wrong...ok profe.gif
the china phones are not that bad. Pro's are they're cheap, touch screen, with many multimedia functions and some useful applications.
Cons are with no warranty support so there might be lapses with the quality control and to have it repaired would be difficult since there might be of few support in your country. Another is that I bet its not symbian OS coz having a symbian function means an affilitation with them which would result to jacked up phone prices which these phone's dont have. The camera has no flash and its a 1.3-3MP depending on which china version. The java, its only ver 1.3. so that means the latest java apps might not be installable.
